Vultures Knob is perhaps
the most photographed trail in Ohio. Boasting a plethora of man made
bridges, ramps, stunts, and other novelties, this place is
the most unique trail in Ohio. However , when you take the turn on the bumpy
gravel road to drive back to the trail you would never know it.
The Facilities - Typically there are a few Port
O Johns for bathroom facilities. There is also a large barn and picnic
shelter area at the trail head. Parking is on a grassy area near the
barn. In the barn will be a collection jar for the $3 fee.

The Variability– Like
I stated above there are many cool man made wooden structures to check
out here. If you are into beautiful scenery and natural trails and
obstacles this isn't the trail for you. What you will find here are
unusual creations to test your technical abilities as well as your
balance. The sections are divided up and named accordingly and each
new section provides a different challenge. One section has 2 lung
burning climbs while another section is a steep technical downhill
followed by some log bridges. Each section has something different
and unique to offer.
If you want to get a taste of North Shore riding
without traveling across the country then check out Killbuck loop. This
boasts a kick ass section entitled "The Serpent." This has you elevated
off the ground for about º mile. It has logs that take you in between
trees and ramps that sway a little as you ride over them. One false
move and youíll be reaching for your medical insurance card.

The Flow of
the trail is good. Each section although different from the previous one,
flows seamlessly into the other. Every time I go back there is something
new to look at and ride. The problem with all the man made wood structures
is that they require an incredible amount of maintenance .I counted
at least 5 loose or broken planks at various parts of the trail. It is
obvious that the structures demand most of the maintenance attention
while the natural trail suffers and gets rutted out in places.
The Condition of the
trail ranged from good to poor. This place is the most rutted trail I
have ridden this year. Granted the weather has been terrible this season and
it baffles me why private land owners don't just close the trail until
it is rideable. The trail really shows signs of extreme wear in certain
places.
The Trail designers took full advantage of the landscape.
Vultures probably has the the most challenging layout of natural land
to work with of any trail in Ohio. There weren't many naturally cool
sections to work with. However, not only is it the most technical trail
in ohio it also gives you a good workout. It
is obvious they worked very hard to route the trail to take full advantage
of everything they could.
