Want great DH in Central Ohio? I have permission to build DH courses at Horn's Hill in Newark. 250 vertical, paved road to the top, very steep in places. We can even use a trackhoe to accomplish this. Has wonderful potential for becoming Ohio's most utilized DH area. I can't build it by myself. This is the biggest green light for Downhill in Ohio we could ask for. I need some folks who will commit to making this happen. The sooner the better.

So...it's on! About 150 yards completed this morning, complete with a kicker and a berm-to-hip to eventually a big downhill berm. Stoked!

Great to meet you sloguy, we had a super good crew out there. I can't believe I'm saying this, but trail building really is almost as much fun as riding. I am positive that this project is going to result in some awesome trails.

homepice - congrats on the new addition to the fam! let me know anytime you want to go out to help dig/build and we can carpool from cbus. I think I'm going to help sloguy for a couple hours Monday morning before I have to get back to town and work...

p.s. I took some pics I'll upload in a bit

Alright here are a few pics of the start of the trail...

Bob (sloguy) and Jamie sussin out the new work:

Simple kicker sans landing, but should be fun - the trail is steep enough to not need a big built-up landing:

Building the first big berm; this is going to be a little 'S' bend into the berm, which turns slightly back uphill, then will hip into a large downhill berm.

Berm complete! Gotta buff out the kicker at the end, but otherwise it's pretty close to done. This is as far as we got today, about 150 yards of trail completed. We might add another small kicker above this berm. The mastermind taking a break before a well-deserved beer:

Thanks guys, can't wait to get out and build the next section.

Hey Bob thats cool you got them to let you build there. Bemus and I used to ride up there all the time a few years ago just because of how big the hill climb was. Im going to Snowshoe this weekend with my dh buddies Ill see if I can get some of them to help with the build. They do a lot of wood work for Ray's MTB. I still come out there to see my sister and parents, this is a good excuse to visit more, maybe even move back to Newark. cbraunbeck@byersauto.com

Hey guys, nice work. Just some quick advise, make sure you are adding a water drainage before and after your berm. You don't want the water to wreck your hard work. Otherwise, it looks well constructed. Great job.

Yep we had that concern and went back out this morning to find a good mud pool in the bottom of the berm, as expected. Bob installed a rocky/gravelly drain at the apex of the berm to drain underneath the big supporting logs, so hopefully that will help fix the drainage. Didn't get too much more trail built but thought out some more routing and added about 50 feet at the end.

osu, I think the first trail is going to be a more all-abilities friendly DH trail, so nothing mandatory that's too huge. But there is a dirt track/road that I think would make for a really nice mini road ladder gap :) That could either be an alternate split from the main trail or even the start of a completely different trail...it's just a matter of manpower and time, the more people who help dig, the better and faster we'll have something fun to ride.

Looks sweet guys. Id love to see a super fast, smooth DH line with some buttery jumps. A couple little drops would be fun. But something to just rip on in Ohio would be great.

Keep up the good work guys.

Don't worry, it's not gonna be Alum

And come to think of it, that first hit needs to be a double I think. Got some good ideas from riding Whistler for the last 4 days...

Well, Bob is the MAN and organized a trackhoe this past weekend and made some incredible progress on the trail. Unfortunately I missed this weekend of building, but I'm seriously going to be out there pretty much every weekend from here on out. Both building and riding. I'm so stoked for progress like this to be made for DH/FR in Ohio.

Jamie sent some pics over so I'm posting them for those guys...check it!

Bob and all - nice work. How far and in what direction from downtown Newark?

It's 10 minutes (but probably only 2 miles?) through stoplights north of exit 21 in Newark.
