Anybody know of some good rides in the Gatlinburg, TN area? Any good websites to check out for area trails and to possibly meet somebody there to ride with?

Thanks,

SC

Thanks for the link - I will check it out. Have you ridden there? I guess I was also trying to see if anybody has some first hand knowledge of trails in the area and maybe get some recomendations.

Thanks again,

Shaun

I looked it over and didn't see anything close to Gatlinburg itself, which is odd. Being kind of a touristy spot that touts hiking trails and mountain views (we go there almost every year), you would think they'd put in a MTB trail or two! Looking forward to hiking Chimney Tops and a couple others this year.

Found some in southern KY, and there's one in the the BSFNRRA, but that's about it. If you find anything please post it here!! I was going to look into this myself in a couple of months.

Mountain bikes are verbotene on the trails of the GSMNP.

Tsali is perhaps the nearest to Gatlinburg: http://www.mtbikewnc...eads/tsali.html

About 1.5 hours drive.

Here's a Cobbly Knob/Gatlinburg site that explicitly states that there are no MTB trails in the area. It recommends Tsali (see Retro's post above), or Big South Fork National Recreation Area like I mentioned above that.

This sucks. At least my boots are allowed!

EDIT: This website has a list of all the trails in eastern Tennessee. It was a link I followed off of the Appalachian Mountain Bike Club's website. While there appears to be no singletrack in Gatlinburg, there are some listed fairly close by (Knoxville, etc.).

EDIT #2: Here's a book entitled "Off The Beaten Track Vol. 4: A Guide to Mountain Biking in East Tennessee". Might be useful?

Got a road bike? If so ride it up from Gatlinburg to Newfound Gap and back.

Good road cycling on the Foothills Parkway too.
